Obey Colbert!
December 20, 2014
Did everyone catch the Stephen Colbert send-off party? His final star-studded last episode was quite amazing! He couldn't get Dick Cheney to crawl out of undisclosed bunker, but he did get war criminal Henry Kissinger to join in on the sing-a-long...Â
Ahhh, but I digress... This is an art blog and, with that in mind, I want to say my mind was blown for about twenty seconds towards the end when an image of Stephen Colbert with Captain America shield, Sword of Justice and an American Flag cape against the NY Skyline flashed across the screen rendered in the unmistakable style of Shepard Fairey, the "Andre the Giant Has A Posse" street artist who became (quite literally) the poster child of Obama campaign with his iconic HOPE image.Â
Whatever you think of Obama, Fairey or the state of the Union, both as an address and as a daily reality, the political landscape will be forever altered -- and I think for the better -- by the often caustic and always clever contributions of Stephen Colbert.Â
Thank you Stephen! And thank you Shepard Fairey for immortalizing this moment forever in art.
